Municipality of Waddinxveen greens vulnerable soil

In Waddinxveen, a seemingly small intervention was recently implemented with a clear impact on the living environment. Commissioned by the municipality of Waddinxveen, a nature-inclusive solution was chosen on a raised mound, where the difference in height with the surrounding pavement posed a risk of soil erosion.

Wildr, in collaboration with Flower Your Place, realized this for the municipality. The mats were installed around three transplanted trees.

What is happening here clearly demonstrates what we stand for. The mats do more than just add greenery. They stabilize the soil, limit erosion, and contribute to a healthier microclimate, partly by reducing evaporation. At the same time, immediate ecological value is created: food for insects, greater biodiversity, and a visibly developing park.

From the moment of installation, the first species were already in bloom and more are now following. The system is starting to work.

For us, this is what it’s all about. Not just isolated green additions, but interventions that provide functional and ecological solutions. Practice and theory coming together in public spaces.
