Municipality of Gouda creates an ecological urban strip
On behalf of the municipality of Gouda, wildflower mats have been applied at a challenging location: a narrow, elongated strip in the median of a main road.
On the outskirts of Heinenoord, nature-inclusive building is taking shape more and more.

Commissioned by Kroon & De Koning, part of VolkerWessels, 68 homes were already fitted with a native rooftop flower meadow last year. Now the next phase has started: an additional approximately 400 m² of flower roof will be installed on 20 extra homes, realized in collaboration with Nophadrain and Groendakspecialist.
The neighborhood stands for tranquility, space, and biodiversity. More than half of the project consists of greenery and water. The rooftop flower meadows contribute to this: they provide cooling, increase biodiversity, and strengthen the ecological network. This creates a natural corridor where birds, bees, and butterflies feel at home and where residents can enjoy daily. Elevated solar panels also benefit from the cooling effect of the vegetation, which contributes to higher efficiency. In this way, the roofs contribute in multiple ways to a healthy and pleasant living environment.
